Ethel Smith

Success Story

Forty-nine-year-old Ethel Smith is a caregiver for her sister. During a three-week period, Ethel experienced equilibrium imbalance and was admitted to a hospital. While there, she was diagnosed with cluster strokes or a series of strokes.

The hospital recommended inpatient rehabilitation for Ethel. She chose to receive her care at Mesquite Rehabilitation Institute (MRI) because her father previously was a patient there.

Upon admission to MRI, Ethel was unable move her left leg. She participated in daily therapy to help her regain function. She now can stand, bend her left knee, and has gained mobility. In addition, she is able to perform daily personal care tasks with minimal or no assistance.

Ethel says her physical therapist, Kat, and her daughter have been especially instrumental in motivating her during her recovery.

“I’m looking forward to returning home to return to hosting and cooking for family gatherings,” Ethel says.
