Meet Our Leaders
Michael Ridgeway, Chief Executive Officer
Michael has 18yrs of experience as a registered nurse with 8 of those years in a nursing leadership role. He is committed to providing excellent leadership and responsible for the daily management of the hospital.
Michael’s broad and varied background includes clinical bedside experience in cardiovascular ICU, step-down unit, ortho trauma unit, telemetry unit, medical/surgical unit, wound care. He has also served as director of business and development and regional director of business and development.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 boys traveling, watching movies, and attending car shows.
Dr. Adam C. Carter, Medical Director
Dr. Adam Carter is Medical Director of Mesquite Rehabilitation Institute, Mesquite, Texas. He is also the National Medical Director for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities for Ernest Health.
Dr. Carter, originally from New York, completed his residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and has almost 20 years of experience. Dr. Carter is a tireless advocate for medical rehabilitation and serves as President of the Dallas Fort Worth Society of PM&R, is active in the Texas Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Society, was selected by the Texas Secretary of Insurance for an advisory committee and serves on a committee of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
In his spare time, Dr. Carter enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and golden doodle, traveling, marathon running, and serving on the foundation of his undergraduate fraternity.
Crystal West, Controller
Crystal enjoys providing both operational and programmatic support to the organization. She oversees all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting needs and the securing of new funding.
Bringing seven years of background in hospital finance to her role, Crystal earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas. Currently, she serves the community through the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce and the American Heart Association.
Crystal enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors.
Rebecca Lanman, Director of Therapy Operations
Rebecca joined Ernest Health in 2008, and she has 16 years of experience in neurorehabilitation, wound care, acute care, and inpatient orthopedics. She is Neuro-IFRAH certified, and she led our program development team for stroke certification by The Joint Commission in 2012.
Rebecca completed her Master of Physical Therapy degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Karen Roberts, Director of Nursing Operations
Karen has 7 years of clinical nurse experience in orthopedics, urgent care, pediatrics, and rehabilitation.
To expand her knowledge in nursing leadership she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree with Walden University.
She has lived in the Dallas area for the past 2 years.
Lena Fulton, Director of Clinical Compliance
Lena has 38 years of experience as a registered nurse with 27 of those years in a nursing leadership role. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1979 and her Masters in Healthcare Administration in 2010.
Her clinical experience includes emergency room nursing, medical-surgical nursing, alcohol and drug rehabilitation, and women’s surgery/oncology.
Jeanne Opheim, Director of Patient Outcomes
Jeanne has devoted more than 25 years to the healthcare profession and continues to be inspired every day by the people she meets. She is motivated to ensure all patients are satisfied with their recovery process and receive the best chance to return to their home and community.
During the past 6 years, she has gained expertise in neurorehabilitation and led our program development team for hip fracture certification by The Joint Commission in 2014.
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, scuba diving, and snow skiing and gives back to the community through Voice of Hope Ministries and Habitat for Humanity.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Texas Physical Therapy Association.
Jena Huffhines, Director of Marketing and Business Development
Jena has over 20 years’ experience within the healthcare industry and possesses a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Dallas as well as a Master’s in Business Administration from Texas Women’s University.
Throughout her career, she has held positions in several post-acute care settings including long term acute care, acute inpatient rehabilitation, home health, hospice, and skilled nursing. Over the past 10 years, Jena has focused her career on healthcare marketing and business development. She now strives to serve as a resource to the community by providing education on post-acute care settings, their differences, and their benefits.
In her free time, Jena enjoys art, photography, and yoga.
